The following is the story, in my own words, of my struggle and continuing struggles with depression. You will not find statistics or studies within these pages, should you be looking. This is about raising awareness through the eyes of someone dealing with the disease of depression and sharing my personal experiences. I am not a writer, and I am not a victim, I suffer from depression. I am someone attempting to create a new and productive life while managing depression. A lot of what you will read will include notes taken out of a log that I kept while trying to capture and make sense out of the many dark days that be felled me. I will not alter the words of these notes as they were jotted down. They may seem garbled or may not make total sense to you, the reader, but it will give you perhaps a better understanding of what goes on in the mind during the lowest of lows. Please note that I am not an expert in treating depression but will share, where appropriate, the different tools that I have been taught or devised myself to cope and become more productive with every passing week. A good friend of mine, Robin Bender gave me this piece of advice. "Do not over analyze what you are trying to write but to let the words and thoughts flow." So, as you read through this book keep in mind that the intent was to open myself up as I was previously, and currently am, dealing with depression. My experience with depression has led me to become an advocate for change in how we deal with mental health in the work place and to talk openly to anyone willing to listen about my experience. This book is just another avenue for awareness.

I am related to Richard Cleary. We have not been in touch for many years but we did grow up together and always got along very well when we saw each other. I was somewhat aware that he was suffering from depression but had no idea how terrible his suffering was, and continues to be. Unfortunately, like so many families, our family has become distant from each other, with little or no contact with each other. There is so much I would like to say to Richard (Ricky) but in this review, I would like to congratulate him on his phenomenal book! His honesty, his strength, his amazing ability to describe the hell he has gone through, and continues to go through, and the fact that he was able to fight through everything, with the help of his wife, to write this book, demonstrates what an incredible and talented man he is!Product details

Even though the author confesses to being a first time writer, and some parts are difficult to follow, I found that I was immediately drawn into the author's suffering, confusion and shock of being diagnosed with severe depression. Every time I put it down, my thoughts kept going back to Mr. Cleary and I went back to read more. I read it in record time. Those who suffer from depression will benefit from hearing another's story told with brutal honesty, and friends and family members will gain insight as to how this disease affects their loved ones. Kudos to Mr Cleary for stepping forward and telling his tale in order to help remove the disgrace felt by those who suffer from mental illiness.
